LOOK WHAT I’VE GOT IN MY GRUBBY LITTLE HANDS (THAT’S IT, THAT’S ALL)
Last night we drove around to 3 different stores trying to see if we could buy the “That’s It, That’s All” new snowboarding movie with Travis Rice sponsored by Quicksilver and Red Bull. They were all either closed or didn’t have it.
Today, I called every Best Buy, Future Shop, Blockbuster, and all the snowboarding stores on 4th and Burrard. No one had it.
Only a couple sketchy online internet stores had it, and not even many of the big players (e.g. Amazon) had it.
Where was I going to get this freaking movie?
Well, it suddenly hit me at the end of work today that there were Quicksilver stores in Vancouver. AND, it’s a Quicksilver movie. So I quickly called up the store in Oakridge… yes, they had it in stock but they were closing in 8 minutes. Darn. So I asked to see if she could leave it at the Safeway customer service desk since Safeway was open later and I could pre-pay on the phone. It was about to happen but then the district manager gave the ixnay on that.
But, she told me they had a store downtown and I could try them. Bingo! Quicksilver on Granville JUST got the DVD in today so I had them reserve one and I rushed down there to pick it up at 7:30, before they closed at 8.
Awesome, I couldn’t be happier to get my hands on it.
So I made some Japanese udon noodle soup from scratch (mmm chicken broth), with vegetables from Granville Island — leeks, shiitake mushrooms, baby bok choy, some dashi powder, onion, freshly chopped green onions, and enoki mushrooms… I thought it turned out really delicious! (P.S. T&T Supermarket downtown is a great place to buy asian food stuffs like fresh authentic Japanese Udon noodles) So Jay came over and the boys drank beer and I had my udon noodle soup and it was a really good night.
The movie was great — I highly recommend it (PSssst Quicksilver downtown still has some copies). Travis Rice was really ripping it up… tons of great tricks with lots of inverts, corkscrews, grabs, backflips etc… and lots of natural terrain… no park! Nice! Lots of beautiful scenic shots, some gorgeous timelapses, great locations (New Zealand, Alaska, Jackson Hole) and a nice Nelson, BC piece… it was fabulous to see a Canadian snowboarding segment that wasn’t shot in Whistler for once. And catboarding at that… to complement the catboarding trip we have planned in February.. w00t! YES!
Let the snow fall! BRING IT ON.

I had to laugh at the two DVD pics, as it looks like you were walking around Downtown going “WHEEEEE DVD!” as you held it up in front of you at all times…

It’s an epic film for sure. Travis is absolutely unreal. We hosted a premiere of it last month at The Vogue Theatre on Granville Street and let me say, seeing it on the big screen was amazing.
**Note- There’s no “c” in Quiksilver.

I haven’t seen this movie yet but it sounds great. There are lots of segments filmed in the Nelson area. You should check out Absinthe Films-Optimistic? for some sick Nelson action.
Where are you going for catboarding?

Mike! That’s pretty much what I did. I kept giggling and looking at it. I think the guy in the Quiksilver (thanks Jen!) store thought I was crazy. Anyway, I was just stoked to get it
The celebration continued much into the night.
Jen, thanks for dropping by and commenting! I just subscribed to your blog. Looks great
I’ll try and come by often. And thanks for fixing my spelling… how embarrassing!
Darn, I wish you had let me know you guys were doing a screening of it on the big screen.. I would have LOVED to see that with a bunch of other fans. And you’re right, the shots are incredible. They did a ton of shooting with helicopters; more so than in any other snowboarding film I’ve seen. Most do a combo of ground shots with heli shots, but this film had almost exclusively heli filming.
Lovewine! Thanks for dropping by as well. I’ve got a few Absinthe films but haven’t checked out Optimistic yet. I wrote it down on my list thought, so hopefully I’ll be able to see it soon. Thank you. Just noticed you’re in the Nelson area.. I’m so jealous! You guys have such great snow and terrain there! As for catboarding, a bunch of us are planning a trip to Sun Peaks, so we’re going to do some catboarding there, but I’d also like to do some in more of the interior. Any recommendations?
P.S. GREAT photo.

Hi Allie,
The Absinthe crew came through Nelson recently showing Ready and I totally missed them>..bummer.
I’m not familiar with any cat operations near Sun Peaks but around here there are plenty of back country operations.
I worked at Baldface Lodgefor 4 winters and the terrain there is epic.
Retallack is gaining more recognition….also a favorite of Terje
Valhalla Powder Cats – Heard good things about this operation.
There are more but this is a good place to start.
Thanks for the photo props…I shot this when Absinthe was at the Lodge Shooting Optimistc? in 2007.

What! How did you get to shoot Absinthe stuff? Where you working for them? Or they just let people shoot the action as long as they stayed out of the way?
So. Freaking. Jealous.

Home made Udon noodle soup with extra vegetables is delicious!!
I was contemplating a fourth serving but didn’t want to seem gluttonous. Oh and the flying option shot at the end there is awesome

I worked/contracted at Baldface as a photographer and Absinthe was there filming for a spell so I shot some stuff around the lodge. They had another photographer with them so I stayed out of the way. I was fortunate….I got to ride and shoot with many awesome boarders.
