THE PAST WEEK…
In the past week, I’ve…
… gone to one of many open skates at 8-Rinks to try and learn how to skate and (eventually) play my favourite sport…
… had a tequila party night out with coworkers where we tried 4 different delicious tequilas at Subeez…
… went to the sold-out ACMSiggraph Vancouver Blizzard Cinematics presentation at the Vancouver International Film Centre…
… and heard Matt Samia and Jeff Chamberlain from Blizzard present on how they create cinematics for Blizzard games from start to finish. Absolutely fascinating. Plus we got to see some teasers for the new Starcraft II intro. Awesome…
… had my favourite sour apple martinis in the city with Crista at West Restaurant…
… bought the Patron Silver tequila Holiday Gift set — a POKER set! A great gift for anyone at Christmas…
… had some people over for the Leafs-Canucks game last Saturday and we drank way too much for 4 PM in the afternoon…
… and sold my Nkon D80 and both my 70-300 and my 18-70 lens. I also bought the Nikon D90 and picked up the 18-200mm VR lens (gorgeous!) and a 50mm 1.8 lens, and a polarizer. Not displayed in the picture is my Nikon Fisheye lens. Altogether, I’m really loving my new photography quiver!

Just couldn’t wait to get your D90 (and a hundred lenses!), eh?

That 50mmm f/1.8 is a sweet lens! It hardly ever comes off my D50

I have a 50mm 1.8 for my canon. I like it.
What is the fstop on that 18-200mm you have now?
I was at 8 Rinks yesterday taking photos of my Brother’s girlfriend’s synchronized ice skating. First time I’ve been in there, its cool. The indoor soccer is cool too!

Mike, you’re right. Although technically now I only have 3 lenses, since I sold my other two
Andre and Tyler, yes I love the 50mm lens as well. It’s so fabulous. I can’t wait to start shooting with it, and for the price it is totally worth it. Although I have to admit I was tempted to spend a few more hundred bucks and get the 85mm 1.8. Seems like there’s so many more applications for it and it also seemed slightly sharper.
Tyler, here is the lens I got: http://www.nikon.ca/en/Product.aspx?m=14332. It’s f3.5-5.6, ED glass and VR II! So excited to start using it.
P.S. You were at 8 Rinks yesterday? So was I! I was sitting in the pub reading my D90 manual while watching Allan’s hockey game
8 Rinks is really great. It’s nice how you can watch without sitting in the cold.

I think the 50mm is a more useful lens on a SLR body with a crop factor. I would think the 85mm would just be too long for normal walk around situations, although not bad for portraits. I have a 50mm f/1.4 and a 30mm f/1.4 for my Canon.

Yeah I was mostly thinking the 85mm for portraits
But I can grab one of those later on in time if I find the need
Oooh 1.4s! Sooo nice… I have to admit I’m jealous!
