SO LUCKY
I’ve really managed to luck out! As I mentioned a month ago or so, I lost my GoPro camera at Baker in the deep powder. I was really bummed out because it was a great little gadget that allowed me to take some really neat footage.
It’s amazing who knows who in this world. It just so happened that my CEO knew the CEO of the GoPro company, Nick Woodman. So thanks to Nick and Justin over at GoPro, they replaced my camera and the suction cup mount totally free! I’m so grateful to have my favourite little toy back.
The GoPro Digital Hero 5 camera is a miniature digital camera, that you can attach with a number of different mounts to just about anything. Surfboard, snowboard, car, bike, etc. It’s 5 megapixels and it’s got a wide angle lens which is perfect for sports. It can record both photos and videos. If you’d like to find out more about the camera or purchase one, just head over to their website here. (Note: I wasn’t paid or asked to write this post!) Check out some of the photos I’ve taken with it below:
In other news, I’ve been working hard on two projects this month since I haven’t been snowboarding in a while. I’ve finally completed my photography portfolio after working for a year on this thing. I just ordered the hardcover version of my book and I should have it in my hands this week. So excited! If it turns out well, I might offer some up for order online if anyone else is interested.
I also have been working on my video application for http://www.islandreefjob.com. I’m super excited, and I think I could actually do a really great job. Stay tuned for the video. If anyone has any funny/entertaining ideas for the 60 second video, please let me know!
I’ve also been working on putting together footage from boarding over the holidays but it’s taking a little time.
Ah Monday mornings. Back to work! I hope everyone is having a good Monday morning so far, and I hope you all have an even better week! Best of all, LOST starts again on Wednesday. I can’t wait!

Allie, that’s incredible about your camera. What a wonderful world, and warm hearts to get one replaced for you just out of the blue! That makes me so happy, good for you!
Who did you decide to order the photobook through? I’m looking at doing something similiar right now – I’ve been looking at Moo, but am hesitant because they’re quite cheap?

Sweet! Looks like a pretty neat camera. I might try and get one.

Wow Allie that is awesome! I can’t wait to see your adventures with the replacement camera! I want one for the car! lol The snowboard would be pretty cool place to mount it too…

That’s sweet that they replaced it for ya. Those are some sweet shots… I make have to get one myself.

Sean, yes I am so grateful. They are such nice, generous guys. And it seems like a great company too. I ordered my portfolio from Blurb. I’ve been spending lots of time working on it. I’ve ordered books from them before and I’ve been very happy with the results so far! My only complaint is I’m very impatient, and even with rush shipping it still takes a little over a week to get including printing and processing time. I want to order Moo cards, but I’ve never thought about their books. Let me know if you get something!
David, thanks, you definitely should. It’s a blast to play with and SUPER easy. Comes with so many mounts you can adapt it to any sport, and it is waterproof. And really cheap, for what it is.
Tyler, cheers thanks so much!
You should get one for the car! The snowboard is fun too.. just don’t forget to tether it somewhere so you don’t lose it, unlike me!
Kimm, thanks missy! I think your paddling adventures could definitely do with it. I’m really thankful the guys replaced it for me

You’d think that in the industry I work in, I would have known that Lost starts on Wednesday. Thankfully I stopped by and have now setup the series recording on the PVR. I owe you one.

Yo Aliie! So sick about the camera, does it really work well stuck on your board while riding??
And I think I’m going to apply for that job also! Holly shit wouldn’t that be the raddest thing ever?

How does the suction cup mechanism work to lock it down? I mean, it wouldn’t be terribly ‘sticky’ if it was just “press down on smooth surface” like a toy one… Does it have a lock-lever?
But hey, awesome that you got a replacement!
More action photos!!

Wow aren’t you lucky? Hopefully you won’t lose it again. CVan you mount that camera on a ski? Or is that too narrow?
In terms of a 60 second video, you should take a look at this.

Chris, what industry do you work in? And no problem
No one should have to miss LOST
Zac, yeah it works AWESOME while stuck on my board. I just need to remember to tether it in case it unsticks for some reason. I’ve never had a problem except for that one time and I probably didn’t attach it right. Good luck with the job application, even though you know I don’t want you to get it so *I* get it!!!
Mike, the suction cup is great. It does have a lock down mechanism that you push down. It is important to keep both the suction cup and the surface you stick it to relatively clean and dry though for best results. And yes, I feel very fortunate and grateful to those wonderful guys for replacing it!
Tawcan, thanks!
You can definitely mount it on a ski but you wouldn’t want to use the suction cup. You can make a little permanent mount.. it comes with lots of different kinds. It’s really small though and you’d barely notice it, especially if you put it close to your bindings. Or you could just mount it on your helmet! (there are both mounts and helmet straps for whichever you’d like to mount it) PS. Great video! I’ve been thinking about doing something like that for the Flickr “My Day, Yesterday” group but never got around to it…

Wow; this camera sounds awesome! I’ve been looking at getting a new one so I can get some cooler and more interesting board pics for my blog, but I’ve never seen one like this before? I’ll check it out!

At first I thought some of those shots were done with your D90….this camera looks really cool – especially with the suction mount.
Like I need another camera

I’d call myself the cable guy, except I’m a training specialist in the call centre so that doesn’t really count.
