BEDROOM DESIGN CONCEPTS

I’ve been sick the past two days with a combination of headaches, fevers, and chills. It hasn’t been pleasant at all. And anyone who knows me knows that I hate hate HATE being sick because it keeps me from doing all the things I love to do.

Well, I’ve spent an excessive amount of time couped up in the bedroom. And it drives me stir crazy. So in between lots of feverish sleep and staring at the walls trying to make the dizziness stop… I’ve been starting to put together the concepts for the design of the bedroom. I still have a long ways to go — there’s still the living room, patio, kitchen, bathrooms, and the sports room. But I digress…

So lying in bed, I was running images of peacefulness and calmness through my head. I wanted something that could be an inspiration for the colour palette and the “feel” of the room.

This photo immediately came to mind:

Design Inspiration, Bedroom

This is one of my favourite stops on the way to Tofino along the winding rivers and streams that cross over the road out there. I love the lush greenery of the forest, the whiteness of the bubbles as the water passes over the rocks swiftly, and the flow and motion to it.

It’s quite hard to incorporate all that into a bedroom. And as I starting working through the concepts, the bedroom turned into something quite different than the picture.

Our living room is quite masculine, so Allan allowed me to make the bedroom a little more soft.

I wanted lots of white, and lots of green. Soft breezy, almost tropical, but still close to home. Lots of textures. And I especially wanted some “distress” in the furniture with a hint of green… kind of how the water “greens” the rocks in the stream over time. I couldn’t find any furniture just like that, so it looks like we’re just going to distress and treat the furniture ourselves… which is better anyway.

Here are the design concepts I’ve been working through for the bedroom:

I’m pretty happy with the concept so far. What do you think? It sure is different than the photograph, but I do feel the colours, “coolness” and peacefulness are well-represented.

Hope you’re feeling better…I just had the “thing” that has been going around the Kootenays…..brutal.

That is quite the post for being sick….I wouldn’t have gone near the confuser.

I think its all about when you wake up and see the room you are in…there really needs to be something there to appease the act of awakening. If you can look around the room and smile because of the way it makes you feel then you have achieved your goal.

High thread count is really important!!!!

Get well, now. That’s not a wish, it’s a declaration of disapproval to the illness in you; or whatever the political term it is when governments use, when they can’t declare actual war…

Anyways – bedroom! Those whites and offwhites will look good, although it would not hurt at all to have a little bit of that slightly mocha-y brown trim (i.e. in the bed frame and the chair) to keep the room from getting too monochromatic (whites to greens) and it’ll help “frame” groups of your colors… Again like the bed – whites and greens with a quasi-border of thin brown. What color is the floor?

The greens of the plants will definitely help keep the room from drifting into that surreal “white room” realm, too.

ALLIE! Stunning choice of colours for the bedroom there, I love the greens! They’re so peaceful, I think they are indeed perfect for a soothing atmosphere! Plus, I love the abundance of pillows in that photo too! Haha.
As for that photograph of yours… wow! So well represented of the west coast… I think it’s deserving of a 24×36 canvas print above your headboard!

Hope your feeling better.. Brie-Ann, my wife, is really sick right now too and seems about as miserable as you were…

Great idea on the earth tones, definitely nice colors for a bedroom. The miniature maple is one of my favorite trees so I highly recommend it :)

You might want to add a little brown, even a light cedar would work if you don’t want to go too dark. Although a dark rich brown would also go really well with whites, creams & green.

You should take that photo, get it printed to wall paper and use it as a focus wall so when you wake up in the morning you awake to such a beautiful place!

Hope you get better soon, I’ve been feeling meh these past days.

I love the shades of greens you picked out. Can’t wait to see the finished product :)

Finding the bedding for my bedroom suite was hard not just because its a king but cause everything I saw was so modern and the bedroom suite is from the late 1800′s.

You just gave me an idea what to use for the vanity table’s chair.. now to find one with no arms :)

Hope your feeling better :) If you need help painting let me know :)

The concept looks beautiful, I would love to have a beautiful colour scheme and furniture that matches to my theme. I haven not had that since I was a kid living at my mom’s.

Your room is going to look so peaceful, I cant wait to see the finished product!

The room colours are very calming. I’m redoing my room to, perhaps you can help me out. My only thing is a flat screen must be in the room somewhere:)
