SEASON ENDER AT WHISTLER BLACKCOMB
I finally got a chance to edit together the video from the weekend before last. Allan, J and I headed up to Whistler Blackcomb for the end of the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival. We met up with the famous Shay from Shayboarder.com and her friends Kendra and Mike.
Sunny, slushy, and pretty mellow conditions. We hopped around on a few things but mostly ripped around on the groomers. A really fun day. Shay is absolutely AWESOME in person and every good thing anyone has ever said about her is 100% true. I somehow managed to delete the pictures off my camera, so Shay has been kind enough to let me repost her pics. I also never manage to get photos of myself filming etc, so it’s really neat to see. Thanks Shay!
Check out the video. Hope you like it. I especially like the part where J and Allan ride over the house. I of course am wearing my Canucks jersey, as part of my “playoff beard” tradition. A little departure from my normal boarding getup, but still fun.
I have to say I’m a bit disappointed with my progression this year. I’ve been boarding for 1.5 years now, and in the past year I’ve spent more time filming and photographing others than I have focusing on developing my skills. Next season I need to make sure I focus more on that. I’ve kinda regressed, actually. But I’ve really enjoyed making little movies so perhaps a balance/compromise is best

In other news, the Canucks play the Blackhawks tonight at 5:00 pm. It’s sure to be a big game, and I think the Canucks are going to bounce back. I’d like to see a tough road win. Really, really excited.
That’s it for now folks. Accessible Twilight filming is on a lull this week, and this is one of the busiest weeks in terms of work for me ever. Plus next week I’ll be heading to Monreal for work, so I’ve got lots to do!
Phew!

Awesome Video, super well edited! I wish I had an epic end of season run but it has been a busy spring. And Re: progression. That is the thing with documenting the things we do, I have done a whole lotta really awesome things in the last 10 years, and I have awesome pictures to prove that I was there, but some of these things I just gotta say I don’t even remember participating in. With out even realizing it I have covered entire events with a detailed photo-narrative from the beginning to the end and not known what the event was for or even about! When the world protested in March of 2003 against the Iraq war I covered the protesters, the pro-war advocates, and all the spots in between and while it was all happening someone asked my opinion on the war, and I realized that I didn’t really have one. I had all the photos and participated in all the events at the time but found myself so far removed from it all that I never thought about what my opinion was. I guess I never see the important things in life because the shutter is in the way.
Sorry this started as a quick comment and ended in a novel
good work on the movies

I know what you mean, there are some festivals I just wanna take pictures/videos of my team taking part in but I also wanna be in the boat racing instead of just watching.
Hopefully next season, someone else will step up to the plate and take more videos of you boarding.

Sweeeeet video! Given the way things have melted, despite the sprinklings of pow, it looks like even Whistler is past hope of squeezing in one more boarding run. Time to pack away my gear into storage.
But vids like these are awesome reminders of the coming season!
I’m impressed with you boarding and filming with your D90 at the same time! (it was a short clip, but still – it’s a fair bit of gear to aim while keeping an eyeball on the run)

Hey Allie,
Ive only just discovered your blog really but Im already finding myself out to be an avid follower. Keep up the good work!
That little movie you did of your recent snowboarding outing is fantastic quality. What camera do you use?
Hope you are well.
Much love,

Great Video as per usual!
We hit Blackcomb on Sunday morning. Hit 7th heaven before it got to slushy, but it was a great day to end the season on. If they had more snow (like last year) we would definitely go again before the end of Spring season on Blackcomb. We’ve put our snow gear into storage
I too need to work on my skillz! This was my 2nd season and looking forward to perhaps some rollers, kickers for the 3rd season. Just need to get into better shape I think!
We also hit the P2P for the first time too. Pretty cool, I got to go free because of my Media pass
Looking forward to Tofino footage! We’re hitting up Tofino in late June for a couple nights.

It has recently come to my attention that I have seen you in pictures on your blog wearing both home AND away Canucks’ jerseys. This, of course, has led me to wonder: How many Canucks’ jerseys does Vancity Allie have? And more importantly: Is this whole “stinky jersey” thing a complete sham? I mean, if you’re rotating jerseys out, how can they ever get that stinky? I feel like…I don’t want to say it….but I feel like I’ve been lied to.

I can imagine it being a little difficult to find the balance between all the filming you do, and actually working on yourself on the slopes too, but both aspects look brilliant from my vantage point! Love that you’re rockin’ the Nuck jersey! HUGE win tonight! Loved it!

Awesome video! Never been farther over than Keystone, CO, but Whistler looks fun. I used to do a lot more photography and was bummed that I never had any pics of myself either. Got a few shots this year that I’ll hold on to.
At an AASI clinic a year ago, I was told I wasn’t regressing my turns correctly. They test you on your ability to differentiate basic turns from dynamic. I know so many ways of approaching turns, I have trouble getting back to basics. And as for balance, I’d go with snowboarding over filming, but everyone’s different.

Wicked vid! Love the Linden jersey!
The Canucks played their best game of the post season thus far! I expect them to only get better from now on. If they can get 3 goals a game, they will win most nights!
Have fun in Montreal!

Good times, good video as usual. I really need to hit the slopes a few more times… or turn into one of those dedicated ppl and do turns all year. That takes a lot of effort though, not to mention you have to hike really high in the summer time to get some turns.

-big sigh-
Just watching the video and seeing the pictures make me depressed that this season is over… Even though it wasn’t any good until the end of February. Most of the video was shot around the Emerald/Red area, right?
Nice Canucks jersey.
The game last night was so humiliating, though.

Sweet Video, I only took vid one day this year. That’s cuz I was too busy riding the sweet POW POW and didn’t want to take the time to set-up a camera and yada yada. Kudos to you for taking the time to do it. I know you’re gonna hate the end here.
GO WINGS!!!
