SNOWBOARDING AND HOCKEY AT APEX MOUNTAIN
Are you looking for my Olympic ticket giveaway? If so, you can find it here, just one post below this one. Also, don’t forget you can follow me on Twitter along with more than 3,000 other friends for Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games coverage and my West Coast tweets of course.
Just a quick post here on our last weekend before the Olympics start in Vancouver. We headed up to Apex Mountain (near Penticton, BC) for Allan’s outdoor ice hockey tournament with his team, as well as for snowboarding and fun! There’s so much to explore in BC outside of Vancouver… if you’re in town visiting, I highly recommend you check out other parts of our beautiful province of British Columbia!
Here I am snowboarding in the trees in the powder. We got so lucky with the conditions… it snowed all week and then dropped 15 cm of light fluffy BC interior powder the night before. Yep, we pretty much rode trees in the bowls on the backside of the mountain all day.
It was a beautiful drive up to Apex.
Every morning we woke up there is looked like this… gorgeous blue skies and lots of snow.
The snow was fantastic. (Yep, I’m actually in this picture although very, very far away)
I loved watching the boys play outdoor hockey. We don’t really ever get to see that in Vancouver, and it’s such a part of our Canadian heritage and culture! Definitely got me even MORE stoked for the Olympics if that is even possible.
We made breakfast a few mornings… lots of sustenance for the day! Can’t live without BACON!
We left a little surprise on a friend’s car.
Here’s the boys’ hockey team. They lost two games but won their last one, and they definitely played hard (although drunk). So much fun to watch… I love these guys!
View from my office window above. What can you expect from my blog in the upcoming weeks? Well, lots of Olympic coverage… definitely from the games/events/pavilions I am attending (see below) and tons of photos and HD video. I’ll be all decked out cheering Canada on as loud as I can, and I’ll be wearing my Canadian pride on my sleeve (and well, my face with tattoos).
GO CANADA GO!
P.S. I’m currently deciding what I should do… should I buy myself a ticket to the Men’s Gold Medal Hockey game? Each ticket is now over $2,200 and it’s a big expenditure… argh… help! What would you do?

Hello there Allie,
Looks like you had a great trip,
About your problem of getting the hockey tickets,
This could be a Once in a life time experience in your own city,
Why would you want to pass it up if you could go?
February 9th, 2010 at 12:45 pm
If you have the money to spend, I would most definitely buy a ticket. This is truly a once in a life time event. In your hometown!! Which would you regret more- spending all that money for a ticket and going to the game, or saving the money, and miss seeing the game in person. I mean it’ll obviously be on T.V., but it is not the same as experiencing it live.

Why not? when will you ever be able to go to the olympics again? Cross your fingers that canada makes the final! it’s going to be a tough tourney!!!

My Family and Consumer Science Teacher has those exact same plates in the picture of your breakfast, and we are all the way in Indiana hahaha: awesome
Looks like you guys had a lot of fun!

$2200 = new lens! new camera body! Travel to some tropical destination where the surf is sweet?
Or… 1 men’s hockey game. If it was Canada vs USA for a Gold then I would say yea do it! The place would be such a zoo!
btw what sort of camera are you bringing to the games? Surly can’t sneak in your Nikon
As much as I would love to do that! lol

Ticket? No way! Think how much snowboarding you could do for $2200. Canada may not even be in the final. If you want a sure thing, go with the girls. They always come to play!

Hi there…can’t wait for the games…Our new TV is arriving this week so it will be fantastic!!!
About your question…it’s a once in a liftetime experience and if you don’t go you might regret it…
On the other hand if you watch it on the telly and get yourself something with the ticket money that will mean something and can be a reminder for you of the occassion could work too…Hope this helps…Now I’m interested to see what you decide…Good Luck with it all and enjoy those Games♥x

nice view from your office. looking forward to your olympic updates! and so glad again that we got to meet for dinner this week – it’s nice to have a genuine conversation with someone and a good laugh or two.
as for your tickets…i would say no. as much as i love hockey, just think how much longer you need to wait for you-know-what… =P
re – bay – yes i was hoping we would get a cooler designer too for our olympic stuff but surprisingly they didn’t do such a bad job.

I’m glad you’re had a great time there!
I’d go to another place or thing less expensive. As you said at twitter, you can go to the Molson Hockey House!

Looks like you had fun.

You have such fantastic photos! I love the first one with you in the snow-covered trees. We’re probably heading up to Silverstar during the kids’ spring break, and I sure hope there’s still snow like that up there! Awesome.

Hey guys, thanks for all the feedback. It’s definitely a tough decision and I’m not sure what I’m going to do yet.
Kyle, yes the time lapse turned out alright but I’m going to edit it into the video when I get a chance
It will look cooler

I’d like to say go for it, I really would. But.. $2200 is a crazy amount of money to take in one event. True, should Canada make it to the final and win, there’s no amount of money that could buy that level of excitement.. but still..
February 10th, 2010 at 2:48 pm
If that $2200 meant that you were playing in the Gold medal game, then it would definitely be worth it. As already mentioned, Canada might not even make it to the final. Personally, I’d get a group of close friends that enjoy hockey together and use the $2200 on something that’ll last longer than 3 hours.

That breakfast looks awesome… and the SNOW too!

Great pics. We didn’t get any bright sunny days on our recent trip
I miss the mountains!
