IF YOU CAN DODGE A WRENCH…

Friday, September 24th, 2010

I mentioned in the post before last that I was looking for things to do this Fall. I spoke too soon! Within the last couple weeks our schedule has gotten increasingly busy… and Fall is all of a sudden looking like it’s going to whizz right by.

Don’t get me wrong, I definitely cannot wait for snowboarding… but in the meantime…

Time to RELEASE THE KRAKEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

… we’ve joined a dodgeball team and play once a week…

Dodgeball time! KRAKEN!!

… our team looks cool. I suck though. Badly. Definitely the worst I’ve been at a sport so far.

Awesome time at company hockey tonight!!! Trout Lake Arena is SERIOUSLY sick.. Great new facility!

I’ve also started playing ice hockey on a regular basis, about once a week! (which is better than 1 or 2 times a year, haha)

Hockey time!!!!!!

… I’m finally starting to get better and feeling a little more comfortable on my skates. Here’s hoping I can keep improving!

Allan is taking a programming class once a week now too and still playing hockey once a week, work is busy, been playing Halo Reach quite a bit, I’ve started shopping for wedding dresses, and almost done reading the second book (A Clash of Kings) in RR Martin’s A Song of Fire and Ice series (yay HBO series!)… I’ve barely had time to breathe!

I’m also very backlogged on photos and posts… I have a whole bunch of photos from the summer, but should I bother going through them and posting now that it is Fall? What have you been up to lately?

WE’VE PICKED OUR DREAM WEDDING DJ! RECOMMEND SONGS?

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

Aaaaand back to wedding stuff :) I’ve taken a break from planning but now that the wedding is less than a year away, I’m starting to think about it more and more!

I am happy to say that we’ve finally secured our dream Vancouver wedding DJ, Austin Beaver! We’re so excited! I’ve interviewed over 20 different DJs in Vancouver, Seattle, Vancouver Island… and Austin is by far the most highly recommended and reviewed DJ I’ve found. He made a fantastic impression on us.

Austin Beaver Vancouver Wedding DJ

Austin is an award-winning DJ and MC, and has performed at celebrity weddings and Fortune 500 events. I think what I’m most excited about Austin is that he actually DJs on the turntables… rather than just playing off an iPod playlist like most DJs I’ve found so far. He’s also very authentic, funny, and can figure out and play to the vibe of a party.

What I’ve realized from talking to all our friends and family about what makes a wedding “fun”, is the people and the party. No one really remembers decorations or all the little details. Those are important to me too, but we decided that the DJ is a huge component of the fun factor of a wedding. What do you think?

I’m also happy that Austin has kindly offered a discount to any of my readers… if you’d like to book Austin for your event or big day, if you mention VancityAllie to him he will give you a big discount of $200 off his services! Woohooo! You can also follow him on Twitter for wedding suggestions, music picks and advice for the groom.

Lastly… I’d love your recommendations on wedding music!

What kind of music makes a wedding fun? What song is a MUST-PLAY at a wedding? Thanks for your help!
