WE’VE PICKED OUR DREAM WEDDING DJ! RECOMMEND SONGS?
Aaaaand back to wedding stuff
I’ve taken a break from planning but now that the wedding is less than a year away, I’m starting to think about it more and more!
I am happy to say that we’ve finally secured our dream Vancouver wedding DJ, Austin Beaver! We’re so excited! I’ve interviewed over 20 different DJs in Vancouver, Seattle, Vancouver Island… and Austin is by far the most highly recommended and reviewed DJ I’ve found. He made a fantastic impression on us.
Austin is an award-winning DJ and MC, and has performed at celebrity weddings and Fortune 500 events. I think what I’m most excited about Austin is that he actually DJs on the turntables… rather than just playing off an iPod playlist like most DJs I’ve found so far. He’s also very authentic, funny, and can figure out and play to the vibe of a party.
What I’ve realized from talking to all our friends and family about what makes a wedding “fun”, is the people and the party. No one really remembers decorations or all the little details. Those are important to me too, but we decided that the DJ is a huge component of the fun factor of a wedding. What do you think?
I’m also happy that Austin has kindly offered a discount to any of my readers… if you’d like to book Austin for your event or big day, if you mention VancityAllie to him he will give you a big discount of $200 off his services! Woohooo! You can also follow him on Twitter for wedding suggestions, music picks and advice for the groom.
Lastly… I’d love your recommendations on wedding music!
What kind of music makes a wedding fun? What song is a MUST-PLAY at a wedding? Thanks for your help!

I’ve been in 2 weddings only, but I always have more fun when the music is more current.. I mean, some people just put a lot of song for the old ones or for dance with another person, and not everyone enjoys it.

I think the music is one of the most important things. I remember the food and details, but the music is what makes a party!

At my cousins wedding the DJ played the song from The Wedding Singer (when Sandler sing on the airplane) & the song from Juno (when they sing together at the end) while they were cutting the cake, toast & what not. I though that was really fun & cute.
Hope your wedding is everything you dream of!!

From my experience it is important for the DJ to understand that you are the boss and what you say goes; period. The DJ we had was constantly pumping up the volume so we had to ask him to turn it down several times. At our wedding, visiting was more important than the dancing.

I put all sorts of restrictions on my DJ. No macarena, etc. But my Mom kept requesting the songs. In the end, I wish I hadn’t said anything because I spent a few songs pissed off, but my Mom was having a blast! And that made me happy. Go with the flow, but make sure you let the DJ know a few songs you don’t want to miss. Some of the oldies get the old folks up and shaking it. Sounds like he’s a good one and will probably be able to feel out the crowd.
Thanks for your comment. I’m still looking for ideas for you, just haven’t come across anything send worthy lately!

What do you and Allan like dancing to? I think it is important to have music that you guys like because if you are on the dancefloor having fun, everyone else will follow.
In my opinion, I think you can’t go wrong with 80′s, 90′s and current music mixed in. Girls love that music and when girls are dancing, boys will follow!
