NEW ECLIPSE SET: POSSIBLE SEATTLE/URBAN SET (PREVIEW)

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

This is a new Eclipse set in Vancouver. So, here are your first look photos at this urban set! It’s definitely a city set… I’m thinking maybe a backstory… or possibly newborns.

So the ONE day I don’t bring my camera to work, I decide to check out an Eclipse set. I apologize in advance for the photos… they were taken with my Blackberry. I may go check out the set another day or a bit later… so stay tuned as I’ll have better photos. For those of you who follow my other Twilight blog posts, you know that normally my images are much higher quality. :)

Eclipse Urban New Set Photos

Here they are setting up what I believe to be a rain machine. Water will come through the tube and then is dispersed through hundreds of little holes along the beam. You can see that the buildings look old and historic, and set the scene nicely for an urban set.

Eclipse Urban New Set Photos

Here’s another shot. I believe filming will take place in the alleyway nearby. Lots of old props are being set up… very grunge, urban items like trash cans and garbage littering the  street. They were also seen painting graffiti and other enhancements to add to the set.

So that’s just a quick preview! Hopefully I have some better photos and a better set report soon. Enjoy! Please be respectful of the photos and of course the filming locations and the crew.

You can always follow me on Twitter for more updates, and I’ll let you know if I end up getting better photos.

What scene in Eclipse do you think this set is from?

NEW ECLIPSE SET: NEWBORN VAMPIRES ARRIVE IN FORKS

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

It’s the new sets for Eclipse that I find truly exciting! Being a fan of the books and the movies, it’s always interesting to see how the scenes change from the books… as well as see what each Director’s style is from one movie of the Twilight Saga to another.

I had a chance to see a new set being filmed for Eclipse… the scene where the newborns arrive in Forks. It’s a picturesque scene, with mountains and water framing the background of the shot, and a sparse unoccupied beach for the newborns to arrive on… then they disappear into the forest. The vampire newborns looked absolutely chilling, and their rugged military-like outfits along with steely, determined glares just added to the mood. Filmed early in the morning, this scene was designed to look as if it had been shot at night, possibly just after dusk or just before dawn.

Vampire Newborns emerge from the water

Riley (Xavier Samuel) and Bree (Jodelle Ferland) were on set as well as a number of newborn vampires we have NEVER seen before.

Huge production setup for a scene in Eclipse

I’m always amazed at what a huge production it is to film just a few seconds for these movies. Second Unit Director EJ Foerster was on set, calm but directive… doing dozens of different takes for only a couple scenes. An amazing number of people involved plus tons of equipment and hours of filming from so many different angles just to get a 5 second shot… wow. Check out all the equipment on the shore, including the scuba diving gear and the dinghys. You can also see some of the shorter fake trees they used in the foreground on the beach.

Male and female newborn vampires

There are two distinct scenes… scenes where the female newborn is talking to a male newborn, and the main scene (which they spent most of the time shooting) where there are three newborns including Riley coming out of the water onto the shore. They don’t come out of the water in the books, but I think it is a nice dramatic addition.

Scuba divers and production crew in the scene

The water here was quite cool in temperature, so I’m not surprised at all to see the actors with thin wetsuits on under their costumes. They were also given small weights under their clothing to help keep them weighed down under the water before the “take”. I have my PADI scuba diving license so I was really curious about how they were using the divers for the filming. The scuba divers served two purposes: One, to give their extra regulator to the actors so they could breathe underwater when necessary… and two, to help give the actors cues and guide them to certain checkpoints when necessary.

HD video coming soon (tomorrow night… sorry guys, I got really sick tonight).

Some closer shots of the newborns

In this scene in the video (coming soon), you’ll see the Director ask them to go underwater (“Under water!), then he counts as they are rolling with the movie cameras “OK, Riley”… then the first actor emerges (my guess is they were using “Riley” as the code word, since the first actor that emerges is NOT Riley). Then the Director calls them out “2…. and 3″… and the other actor and then Riley emerges from the water. The vampires moved slowly, slinking through the water but very clearly with purpose.

Vampires and Riley emerging

You can see from the camera that it is going to be a very tight shot with how close some of the production members are standing in the water.

Scuba divers and production crew in the scene

Several iterations of this shot continued, with different combinations of the newborn vampires in the water. They also tried different lighting setups, either with a white sheet to bounce water off in the water, or with a large spotlight shining through a diffuser straight at the actors. The camera rig was very flexible, above to move up down and really get around the actors in any angle necessary for the shot. The actors had very pale makeup on.

Riley and Production Member

I also had my suspicions confirmed by one of the PAs that the entire scene was being shot with no sound. Music and effects were to be added later in post-production. Good thing — because an entire squad of geese started squawking their hearts out during the middle of several scenes. It was hilarious.

Scuba diver and dinghy

Unfortunately I didn’t get to see Jodelle film any of her scenes (that’s not her in the water), but you can see her here grabbing some food. Her makeup was already done though, as you can see how pale she looks.

Jodelle Ferland on a break

I absolutely loved visiting this set. It was one of the coolest I have seen in a while, at least since New Moon ;)

Hope you enjoyed the photos and the video! You can always follow me on Twitter for more updates, or check here to see my other blog posts with Twilight cast members and live set filming.

100 MONKEYS PERFORM, TWILIGHT’S ECLIPSE CAST GET COZY

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

Last night we went to see Jackson Rathbone and his band 100 Monkeys perform at the Rickshaw Theatre in Vancouver. Hastings and Main isn’t the greatest area for young girls to be hanging out in an alley after midnight… but, I digress.

Jackson Rathbone

Jackson (“Japer”) and his band rocked out to a jam-packed venue of screaming fans, in front of some of his fellow cast mates and friends Nikki Reed (“Rosalie”), Elizabeth Reaser (“Esme”), Paris Latsis (Paris Hilton’s ex), and Twilight author Stephenie Meyer.

Twilight's Jackson Rathbone performs with the 100 Monkeys

Check out the HD video above to see Jackson and the 100 Monkeys perform an improvised song (with a suggestion of “Acorn” from the audience), and see Nikki and Paris get cozy as well as Elizabeth Reaser and Stephenie Meyer in the video.

The stage set up

It was a neat venue… I thought they did a nice job with the stage setup and the lighting. Shadows, vibrant coloured lighting, and tall dark angular shapes danced across a back screen as the band played to hundreds of photo flashes going off every minute for the duration of the show.

100 Monkeys

After two opening acts, the band was escorted on stage from an upstairs VIP room by more-than-necessary security and played for about an hour and a half.

Nikkie Reed gets close to Paris Latsis

Nikki, Paris, and Liz were there right at the start, watching with friends from a VIP booth overlooking the stage. Nikki and Paris were very close and “touchy touchy” during the evening, often leaning in close to talk and giggle, touch cheeks and discretely kiss (sadly, no picture but I saw it with my own eyes).

Jackson Rathbone

Jackson looked suave with his white fedora, skinny black tie, lightly pinstriped white shirt, and grunge jeans.

Jackson Rathbone

Band members often switched instruments, and Jackson played every instrument on stage over the course of the evening.

The VIP booth

Here’s a look at the entire VIP booth that was there… recognize anyone else?

Liz looked like she was having a blast the whole time.

I love these silhouettes of Jackson against the show lighting.

Stephenie Meyer

Stephenie Meyer

Stephenie Meyer was also there, mingling with the crowd at first unnoticed, and then eventually escaped to the VIP booth once she was discovered, mobbed and flashed… *sigh* I love Stephenie. Getting to talk to her last year and take pictures with her definitely had Amy and I fangirling last year. (Check out my older Twilight-related blog posts)

Nikki, Paris, Liz, and Stephenie all left halfway through the show. I’m not sure why, that is pretty uncharacteristic of them… but I would guess that it had to do with the insanely hot and sticky temperatures inside the theatre. We were on the ground floor close to the concrete walls where it was cool, and we were sweating. Jackson and his band were dripping with sweat, and I would guess the VIP booth way up in the air was even hotter, forcing some of the cast members to leave a little early.

Elizabeth Reaser climbs down Nikki Reed leaving Paris Latsis leaving

I love Liz’s sexy black thigh high boots (so hot this Fall, right?) and backless dress.. Nikki had on some cool shoes with a tunic adorned with a large sequined/studded flower and tights. Paris had a hat, wife beater (hmm, not so hot) and jeans. It was quite a climb to get from the booth to the backstage, so here are some fun shots of everyone climbing down to leave. They left through the backstage which tunneled through to the front door and took a taxi home. Some of my friends got a signature and photo with Liz in the front. :)

Jackson Rathbone

Jackson smiles from the car

The end of the show consisted of us (and a few other girls and paps) waiting in the back alley to see them leave. Some friends got photos with Ben G from the band, and then shortly after Jackson exited the theatre quickly surrounded by 4 bodyguards (was that really necessary?) and hopped into a vehicle with Scott “The Scientist” (also played that night) and gave us a little smile before taking off. We were surprised that he didn’t stop to say hi to any of the fans, as Jackson is normally very fan-friendly.

Fun night, great performances, and neat to see the cast again. Sorry for the lateness of the post, we were out till 4 AM last night :)

FIRST LOOK AT THE ECLIPSE GRADUATION SCENE, AND BILLY BURKE!

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Hey Twilight fans… I know it’s been a while since I’ve blogged. This is actually the first set I’ve visited on Eclipse so far… even though it’s been filming for a couple weeks. I’ve been SO busy with work and personal stuff that I haven’t had a chance yet to visit all the sets… so, perhaps this is the beginning of the end for me? ;) Ahhh, that’s how it always is with Twilight sets… down the rabbit hole.

I got the chance to visit the set of the Graduation Scene in Eclipse today after work. I heard that Rob, Kristen, Ashley, Jackson, Peter and others were on set today filming the scene. Sadly I only got there for the tail end of it, so here are some of the photos I captured.

Eclipse Graduation Extras in Caps and Gowns

Here’s your first look at the cap and gowns they are using for the graduation scene! Very cool. Should make for some colourful scenes on film… very excited to see. They had dozens of extras on sets today… maybe around 50 people? Old people, young people, and tons of young actors dressed up as other graduating Forks High School kids. Here’s a look at what they are wearing. Very yellow! Must have been a lot of work for the costume designers.

Billy Burke in costume as Charlie Swan

And of course, sexy sexy Billy Burke all dressed up in costume as Charlie Swan. Here’s your first look at Billy! We haven’t set him yet on set so it’s pretty excited to see him all dressed up. Digging the blazer and the shoes… very Charlie Swan.

Billy Burke in costume as Charlie Swan

It’s no secret to my friends that I dig older men (Allan is quite a bit older than me)… and well, Billy Burke… yeah, he sure fits my taste in men :) Older, rugged, and sexy. Mmhmmm.

Mystery principal

Here’s a mystery actor. Only the main principals get the “umbrella treatment”. Your guess is as good as mine. Judging by the shoes and the jeans it looks like a man, but I don’t think it is Billy. Who do you think it is?

Taking down the graduation scene Taking down the graduation scene

The graduation scene was shot indoors in this school, filmed in the auditorium. After that, they moved to a park nearby where they proceed to shoot a different scene.

There are no vampires in this scene, only the Forks humans, Kristen, and Billy. Sadly no sightings of them for us. They had a number of extras on the field milling around, talking to each other… apparently they were congratulating each other after the ceremony.

Here’s where we enter the “bad reporting” zone, and I show you pictures of people who could be certain actors. Please note that I was only told who these people are, it’s quite hard to tell from the photos since they are blurry. Apologies, but hey, it’s better than nothing and I’m just getting back into Eclipse!

Anna Kendrick?

I am told this is Anna Kendrick (Jessica). This is not for certain.

Ashley Greene?

I am told this is Ashley Greene (Alice). This is not for certain.

Jackson Rathbone?

I am told this is Jackson Rathbone (Jasper). This is not for certain.

Hopefully I have better stuff soon. Thanks for stopping by! Be sure to check out my other Twilight posts from New Moon filming, and follow me on Twitter.

Thanks for visiting :) You’ll see more soon.

NEW MOON/ECLIPSE CAST PARTY PHOTOS

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

Wow! Amy and I had a great night last night. We got to see quite a few of the cast members and even some of the new Volturi! (SO COOL!)

Rachelle Lefevre and her little sister

First stop was Burrard street where we saw Rachelle Lefevre (Victoria) out and about with her little sister. So cute! There were some rude paps/videographers who didn’t stop filming her when she asked them not to take video. Not impressed! Rachelle was showing her little sister around Vancouver and she looked gorgeous! That’s really cool of her to take her little sis around. She wore the coolest sandals… winding gray suede strips of fabric flats with silver studs. Also loved her torn light blue jeans, black leather jacket, and scarf.

Rachelle smiles

I managed to get a picture with her! She is so nice! Doesn’t her hair look gorgeous? Also digging the white leather hobo bag and metal with turquoise necklace.

Dakota Fanning and Rachelle leave in a cab

Here’s Dakota Fanning leaving in a cab with Rachelle and her little sis. Dakota is going to be great as Jane! Our first Volturi sighting!

Kevin Bieksa and son!

Please excuse the Twilight deviation… guess who else I got to see? KEVIN BIEKSA! Vancouver Canucks player with his son. They were having a Canucks convention at a nearby hotel so I also got to stand one foot from Roberto Luongo, Alex Edler, and Shane O’ Brien! No pics but it was STILL AMAZING! Go Canucks Go!

———–

After dinner (at Banana Leaf… Mmmmm!)… we headed back downtown later that night to Blue Water Cafe in Yaletown (one of my favourite restaurants, highly recommend it… great seafood). We had missed them arriving and Mandy got a photo with Rob. Be sure to check out her pic. Reports of them leaving the restaurant on Twitter were 100% false.

There was an all-cast New Moon Wrap Party and Eclipse Kick-Off Party happening at Blue Water. All the cast members were partying in a private room at the restaurant. David Slade was there to kick things off, Stephenie Meyer also, as well as Rachelle Lefevre (Victoria), Rob Pattinson (Edward), Kristen Stewart (Bella), Taylor Lautner (Jacob), Ashley Greene (Alice), Michael Sheen (Aro), Jamie Bower (Caius), Charlie Bewley (Demetri), Dakota Fanning (Jane), Cameron Bright (Alec) and I’m pretty sure I saw Melissa Rosenberg (screenwriter) there.

I saw a couple cast members holding thick manuscripts, including Rob, so I’m PRETTY sure they were possibly giving out Eclipse scripts (with David Slade, Stephenie and Melissa doesn’t it seem possible?). How cool is that?

David Slade, Eclipse Director

David Slade was actually really cool to fans, and gave the peace sign and thumbs up sign a few times… he actually apologized for what he said about Twilight. Didn’t expect that at all! Right on David! We’ll have you as the Director for Eclipse after all ;) He was looking very Director-ly in a black zip up turtleneck.

Stephenie Meyer and Amy

Amy managed to get a photo with Stephenie Meyer. Only photo of the night! Stephenie was absolutely lovely and signed some books for another fan. She was really sweet and was worried about looking tired after the long night, but I’m sure you’ll agree she looks amazing. Stephenie had a bright blood red purse that was totally Twilight appropriate.

Michael Sheen, Jamie Bower (Volturi!)

We also saw Dakota Fanning, Michael Sheen, and Jamie Bower leaving into a cab. They left quite early actually. Michael was wearing a grey cargo jacket with a plaid shirt underneath. Jamie had a cute poorboy cap on, blue jeans, and a blue military-ish jacket. He had this HUGE stiff burgundy messenger bag. Wonder what he had in there… I wonder why so many of the cast members had messenger bags with them at a restaurant… HMMMM…. maybe more evidence for scripts? ;)

Cameron Bright, Alec (Volturi!)

Also saw BC boy hottie Cameron Bright… he’s going to be awesome as Volturi Alec. He is seriously cute. Who doesn’t love a Canadian boy? ;)

Cameron Bright, Alec (Volturi!)

Cameron was laughing and smiling a lot and seemed super cheerful. Sporting a backwards red baseball cab and a graphic tee.

Rob Pattinson hangs out outside

Rob spent a LOT of time outside on the patio with Kristen. Charlie Bewley and Ashley Greene would join them from time to time, but they surprisingly spent a lot of time sitting very close together in the corner of the patio smoking for most of the night. This is not some “gossip site” making it up… I saw it with my own eyes. Didn’t get many photos of Rob unfortunately, but here he is standing tall with a blue plaid shirt, black pants and black shoes.

I also saw Ashley Greene and Charlie Bewley at the bar doing shots. They were there for quite some time. Go Ashley! Looked like she could keep up her drinks with Charlie just fine.

Rachelle Lefevre leaves

Here’s Rachelle leaving the bar… most of the main cast members left the bar at the same time and hopped into 2 cabs and one limo.

That's a SCRIPT? Rob and Kristen get into limo

Guess who was in the limo together? Kristen and Rob. Still not sure anything is going on romantically there but they do seem like very close friends. Check out the huge manuscript in Rob’s pocket. Gotta be a script, right?

Hope you guys enjoyed the pics! We had such a good time and nice to see our fellow fans again :)
