NEW ECLIPSE SET: POSSIBLE SEATTLE/URBAN SET (PREVIEW)

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

This is a new Eclipse set in Vancouver. So, here are your first look photos at this urban set! It’s definitely a city set… I’m thinking maybe a backstory… or possibly newborns.

So the ONE day I don’t bring my camera to work, I decide to check out an Eclipse set. I apologize in advance for the photos… they were taken with my Blackberry. I may go check out the set another day or a bit later… so stay tuned as I’ll have better photos. For those of you who follow my other Twilight blog posts, you know that normally my images are much higher quality. :)

Eclipse Urban New Set Photos

Here they are setting up what I believe to be a rain machine. Water will come through the tube and then is dispersed through hundreds of little holes along the beam. You can see that the buildings look old and historic, and set the scene nicely for an urban set.

Eclipse Urban New Set Photos

Here’s another shot. I believe filming will take place in the alleyway nearby. Lots of old props are being set up… very grunge, urban items like trash cans and garbage littering the  street. They were also seen painting graffiti and other enhancements to add to the set.

So that’s just a quick preview! Hopefully I have some better photos and a better set report soon. Enjoy! Please be respectful of the photos and of course the filming locations and the crew.

You can always follow me on Twitter for more updates, and I’ll let you know if I end up getting better photos.

What scene in Eclipse do you think this set is from?

NEW ECLIPSE SET: NEWBORN VAMPIRES ARRIVE IN FORKS

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

It’s the new sets for Eclipse that I find truly exciting! Being a fan of the books and the movies, it’s always interesting to see how the scenes change from the books… as well as see what each Director’s style is from one movie of the Twilight Saga to another.

I had a chance to see a new set being filmed for Eclipse… the scene where the newborns arrive in Forks. It’s a picturesque scene, with mountains and water framing the background of the shot, and a sparse unoccupied beach for the newborns to arrive on… then they disappear into the forest. The vampire newborns looked absolutely chilling, and their rugged military-like outfits along with steely, determined glares just added to the mood. Filmed early in the morning, this scene was designed to look as if it had been shot at night, possibly just after dusk or just before dawn.

Vampire Newborns emerge from the water

Riley (Xavier Samuel) and Bree (Jodelle Ferland) were on set as well as a number of newborn vampires we have NEVER seen before.

Huge production setup for a scene in Eclipse

I’m always amazed at what a huge production it is to film just a few seconds for these movies. Second Unit Director EJ Foerster was on set, calm but directive… doing dozens of different takes for only a couple scenes. An amazing number of people involved plus tons of equipment and hours of filming from so many different angles just to get a 5 second shot… wow. Check out all the equipment on the shore, including the scuba diving gear and the dinghys. You can also see some of the shorter fake trees they used in the foreground on the beach.

Male and female newborn vampires

There are two distinct scenes… scenes where the female newborn is talking to a male newborn, and the main scene (which they spent most of the time shooting) where there are three newborns including Riley coming out of the water onto the shore. They don’t come out of the water in the books, but I think it is a nice dramatic addition.

Scuba divers and production crew in the scene

The water here was quite cool in temperature, so I’m not surprised at all to see the actors with thin wetsuits on under their costumes. They were also given small weights under their clothing to help keep them weighed down under the water before the “take”. I have my PADI scuba diving license so I was really curious about how they were using the divers for the filming. The scuba divers served two purposes: One, to give their extra regulator to the actors so they could breathe underwater when necessary… and two, to help give the actors cues and guide them to certain checkpoints when necessary.

HD video coming soon (tomorrow night… sorry guys, I got really sick tonight).

Some closer shots of the newborns

In this scene in the video (coming soon), you’ll see the Director ask them to go underwater (”Under water!), then he counts as they are rolling with the movie cameras “OK, Riley”… then the first actor emerges (my guess is they were using “Riley” as the code word, since the first actor that emerges is NOT Riley). Then the Director calls them out “2…. and 3″… and the other actor and then Riley emerges from the water. The vampires moved slowly, slinking through the water but very clearly with purpose.

Vampires and Riley emerging

You can see from the camera that it is going to be a very tight shot with how close some of the production members are standing in the water.

Scuba divers and production crew in the scene

Several iterations of this shot continued, with different combinations of the newborn vampires in the water. They also tried different lighting setups, either with a white sheet to bounce water off in the water, or with a large spotlight shining through a diffuser straight at the actors. The camera rig was very flexible, above to move up down and really get around the actors in any angle necessary for the shot. The actors had very pale makeup on.

Riley and Production Member

I also had my suspicions confirmed by one of the PAs that the entire scene was being shot with no sound. Music and effects were to be added later in post-production. Good thing — because an entire squad of geese started squawking their hearts out during the middle of several scenes. It was hilarious.

Scuba diver and dinghy

Unfortunately I didn’t get to see Jodelle film any of her scenes (that’s not her in the water), but you can see her here grabbing some food. Her makeup was already done though, as you can see how pale she looks.

Jodelle Ferland on a break

I absolutely loved visiting this set. It was one of the coolest I have seen in a while, at least since New Moon ;)

Hope you enjoyed the photos and the video! You can always follow me on Twitter for more updates, or check here to see my other blog posts with Twilight cast members and live set filming.

FIRST LOOK AT THE ECLIPSE GRADUATION SCENE, AND BILLY BURKE!

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Hey Twilight fans… I know it’s been a while since I’ve blogged. This is actually the first set I’ve visited on Eclipse so far… even though it’s been filming for a couple weeks. I’ve been SO busy with work and personal stuff that I haven’t had a chance yet to visit all the sets… so, perhaps this is the beginning of the end for me? ;) Ahhh, that’s how it always is with Twilight sets… down the rabbit hole.

I got the chance to visit the set of the Graduation Scene in Eclipse today after work. I heard that Rob, Kristen, Ashley, Jackson, Peter and others were on set today filming the scene. Sadly I only got there for the tail end of it, so here are some of the photos I captured.

Eclipse Graduation Extras in Caps and Gowns

Here’s your first look at the cap and gowns they are using for the graduation scene! Very cool. Should make for some colourful scenes on film… very excited to see. They had dozens of extras on sets today… maybe around 50 people? Old people, young people, and tons of young actors dressed up as other graduating Forks High School kids. Here’s a look at what they are wearing. Very yellow! Must have been a lot of work for the costume designers.

Billy Burke in costume as Charlie Swan

And of course, sexy sexy Billy Burke all dressed up in costume as Charlie Swan. Here’s your first look at Billy! We haven’t set him yet on set so it’s pretty excited to see him all dressed up. Digging the blazer and the shoes… very Charlie Swan.

Billy Burke in costume as Charlie Swan

It’s no secret to my friends that I dig older men (Allan is quite a bit older than me)… and well, Billy Burke… yeah, he sure fits my taste in men :) Older, rugged, and sexy. Mmhmmm.

Mystery principal

Here’s a mystery actor. Only the main principals get the “umbrella treatment”. Your guess is as good as mine. Judging by the shoes and the jeans it looks like a man, but I don’t think it is Billy. Who do you think it is?

Taking down the graduation scene Taking down the graduation scene

The graduation scene was shot indoors in this school, filmed in the auditorium. After that, they moved to a park nearby where they proceed to shoot a different scene.

There are no vampires in this scene, only the Forks humans, Kristen, and Billy. Sadly no sightings of them for us. They had a number of extras on the field milling around, talking to each other… apparently they were congratulating each other after the ceremony.

Here’s where we enter the “bad reporting” zone, and I show you pictures of people who could be certain actors. Please note that I was only told who these people are, it’s quite hard to tell from the photos since they are blurry. Apologies, but hey, it’s better than nothing and I’m just getting back into Eclipse!

Anna Kendrick?

I am told this is Anna Kendrick (Jessica). This is not for certain.

Ashley Greene?

I am told this is Ashley Greene (Alice). This is not for certain.

Jackson Rathbone?

I am told this is Jackson Rathbone (Jasper). This is not for certain.

Hopefully I have better stuff soon. Thanks for stopping by! Be sure to check out my other Twilight posts from New Moon filming, and follow me on Twitter.

Thanks for visiting :) You’ll see more soon.

SAGE FROM THE DILLS, NIKKI REED, TAYLOR LAUTNER, KRISTEN STEWART AT METROPOLE & GAME 3 AT THE SHARK CLUB

Monday, April 20th, 2009

This one’s going to be a bit of a mixed post to cover my Sunday. :)

First it was off to the Shark Club to watch the Canucks play St. Louis for Game #3 in the first round of the playoffs. Pics at the end of this post.

Metropole, Vancouver

Sage from the Dills, Nikki Reed, Taylor Lautner

I received an e-mail from the street team leader of the Dills telling me to go out tonight to watch Sage perform at Metropole in Gastown. So Allan, Amy, Mandy, Tara, John, Ranelle and myself headed out to Metropole to check it out around 10:00. Sadly it was SUPER dark in there (much darker than the 100 Monkeys) concert and all my photos turned out dark and blurry. A real shame.

Sage from the Dills at Metropole

Sage from the Dills was awesome! She had a great voice, both chill and uptempo songs, and her song “Dawn” was great… it should really make it into New Moon! Unfortunately her guitar broke at the beginning of the show so she had to borrow the opening performer’s guitar.

Sage from the Dills at Metropole

Although her band wasn’t there, she had the “Phantom Dills” play in the background and sang and played her guitar for the fans there. She told a lot of great stories and kept a chill vibe going the whole night. She looked stylish in a green striped blouse, black high-waisted trousers and knee-high black boots.

Nikki Reed takes pictures of Sage

I asked her if I could take photos of my show and she said that was cool. Nikki Reed herself came out and sat right in front for half the show to take photos of her friend, support her music, take videos, and dance along to the music. What a great friend! They were talking/shouting to each other during the show the entire time, and Nikki was giving song suggestions.

Here’s a video of Sage performing. It’s really dark but you can still hear the great music. During the flashes you can also see Nikki and Taylor Lautner.

Sage serenades Taylor Lautner

Near the end of the night, Sage serenaded and sang to Taylor. It was really cute. Taylor looked very casual and cool in a plaid shirt, distressed jeans, and rockin’ plaid sneakers.

Nikki, Taylor, and Kristen (with those fabulous glasses) kept in the roped off area for the most part.

Kristen and Taylor didn’t pose for pictures and left at the end of the show, I’m guessing to keep the spotlight on Sage.

Sage from the Dills

Sadly this photo of Sage didn’t turn out, I had turned the autofocus off on my camera and forgot that I did, so half my photos (including the photo I am in with Nikki) were blurry.

Nikki Reed (Rosalie from Twilight)

Nikki looked awesome in a white and black striped shirt, a gray scarf (popular with the Twilight cast it seems!), blue jeans, and ankle boots, with a long brown leather jacket.

Nikki Reed (Rosalie from Twilight)

Both Nikki and Sage posed with fans for 10 minutes. Nikki picked up Sage’s guitar for her, and they both eventually took off out the side door.

Girls out at Metropole

Fun night! It was really good music and it was the perfect way to end the weekend. Here’s a picture of Mandy, Ranelle, Amy, myself, and Tara (from L to R).

Here’s some pictures from the Shark Club earlier…

Shark Club

We cheered on the Vancouver Canucks to a 3-2 victory over the Blues, taking the Canucks to a strong 3-0 series lead. Canucks looked pretty shaky in the first period, and were lucky Luongo kept them in the game. Second and third period they looked a lot better, even without Mats Sundin. Impressed with the Canucks penalty kill.

Gang at the Shark Club

It was Kyle and Lindsay’s birthday so we had a good-sized group out and made a little noise at the bar. ;)

Group at the Shark Club

And that’s the end of the weekend!

TWILIGHT NEW MOON’S TAYLOR LAUTNER (JACOB) ON SET FILMING AT THE RIDGE

Monday, April 6th, 2009

TEAM JACOB!

That’s all I can say. This afternoon Amy, Kim and I went to go check out the set of the Twilight Saga movie New Moon at the Ridge Theatre in Vancouver. It was so worth it. Miss Amy takes total credit for setting this up. Thanks Amy!

Twilight New Moon Filming at the Ridge Theatre

When we got there we hung out at Meinhardt for a bit… there were barely any fans there since we had gotten a tip, so we were trying to be incognito. We walked around to the side for a bit to check out the alley and the side of the bowling alley. The scenes being filmed here are the two Port Angeles movie theatre scenes in New Moon (when Jessica and Bella go to the movies, and later on when Mike, Jacob and Bella see a film).

Yes, we may have been twice the age of everyone else there, but we were okay with that. We waited about 2 hours before Taylor Lautner (Jacob) came out to take photos with the fans. What a class act. Totally reaffirms why I am Team Jacob.

Taylor was extremely gracious and friendly. Putting his arms around fans and making space to take photos with their friends. He couldn’t have been a better sport. His skin looked amazing up close snd he smelled GOOD!

Taylor Lautner (Twilight's Jacob)

He took about 4-5 photos with fans and then went back in.

Enjoy the photos! Hopefully Amy and I will be able to get some more photos soon. Sorry for not posting the snowboarding movie tomorrow… Team Jacob takes precedence ;) I’ll try to get it out this week though before the Tofino surf weekend.
