PRETTY GIRLY THINGS ROUND-UP

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Warning: If you don’t like materialism/consumerism with designer fashion, please don’t read on. Check out my other posts on the categories to the right :) We’ll be back to our regular programming soon ;)

I’ve been slowly accumulating a few designer things over the past few months, and I thought I’d do a post with all the pretty girl things in one go. Of course, 99.9% of things in my closet are not designer, and I don’t think it’s necessary to have designer things to be fashionable… but I do have a thing for brands (I can admit it!) and I like to have a couple pieces in my wardrobe that are designer. Plus, with friends like Liv, Kelsey and Jennifer (not to mention my best friend Christie who works at Net-a-Porter) feeding you constant fashion news, it’s hard not to get swept up in it all. :)

So, here we go with a few purchases I’ve made over the past couple months for Spring/Summer 2010 Fashion…

Hugo Boss Pink Belt

… a blush pink Hugo Boss Orange leather belt. Really into this colour for spring…

Cole Haan Slingbacks

… very comfortable Cole Haan buckle slingback shoes that are great for work…

Salvatore Ferragamo Boxes

… and yes, I visited the Salvatore Ferragamo store on Robson with a couple items in mind: a new purse, and new shoes. Years ago, I wouldn’t have been interested in Ferragamo at all because they always seemed a bit “old” to me. However, I tried on dozens of shoes on in Holt Renfrew from Louboutins (blah) to Jimmy Choos to Manolo Blahniks… and guess what, Ferragamo seemed the most comfortable for my shape of foot and the most well-made and I like that their shoes and handbags are made in Italy with good quality leather.

Coral Ferragamo Peep-Toe Pumps

… so I completely fell in love with these coral/pink bow Ferragamo peep-toe pumps. Soooooooo comfortable and I really like the colour. They are quite pink but for some reason the lighting makes them look red.

Blue Ferragamo Handbag

Every couple of years I buy a new purse and then I proceed to completely wear it into the ground. My Fendi purse is now completely covered in dirt, frayed, and unusable. Liv was shocked when I told her that I only have one purse and I bring it everywhere — from restaurants to surf trips. Yep, I know. It’s almost a crime. But I really only want one purse at a time. So, I hopelessly fell in love with this blue Ferragamo leather purse. Here’s why: it’s small (I only like small purses), it’s structured so it will hold it’s shape, it’s got a gorgeous grain and design in the leather, I can wear it anywhere, and it can be worn for any season.

Purse Links/Strap Detail Purse Liner and Pocket

My favourite thing about it is the blue colour and the silver link detailing in the straps. The colour is great for Spring 2010 but it’s pretty unique as well.

Agent Provocateur/French Lingerie

Of course, every woman at one point in her life could use a little French lingerie :)

Spring Colours

I’ve updated my wardrobe a bit for spring with some new colours… the rust colour is really big right now and some light blues and pinks as well to wear to work…

House of Harlow 1960 Jewelry

… I am smitten with these necklaces from House of Harlow 1960 that I picked up at Holt Renfrew. The studded horseshoe necklace is really long and works with so many different outfits, and the key necklace is perfect for a more subtle look.

Tory Burch Coral Jellies

Lastly, of course I picked up a pair of coral Tory Burch jellies to wear to the beach and walk around town. They are made in Brazil, but they aren’t as well-made as a leather pair of shoes but it should be fun to wear these and at least they can get wet without much trauma.

And that’s it! Any new purchases for you in the last few months that you love? What is on your wish list for Spring/Summer 2010 fashion? :)

IT IS YOUR CIVIC DUTY TO VOTE

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

Every once in a while I get to do something girly (gasp!), and today I went shopping. More pictures of my loot to come. I have concluded that the mall is a zoo and I’d much rather be the Metrotown “Guide” boy on rollerskates so I could bowl over slow walkers and people who decide to walk 4-in-a-row clogging up an entier side of the mall walkway. Anyway. I have decided that I will never EVER go to a mall on a Saturday, and from now on, all my shopping will take place at local Vancouver boutiques, which is the way it should be anyway.

I thought I’d mention two things that should matter to any Canadian readers.

1. The Hockey Night in Canada Theme

Yes, it is a matter of national security. In case you haven’t heard, the CBC Hockey Night in Canada theme is no more (due to the lady who composed it demanding ridiculous royalties, and therefore somewhat distressing my childhood upbringing emotional ties to the HNIC theme). So, CBC decided to have a contest, where people all over Canada could submit their compositions. Music composition sits very close to home, as my younger brother is a brilliant composer and musical prodigy (he plays in the Vancouver youth symphony, has been composing since he was 11, and has won numerous awards). I encourage you all to go listen to the Top 5 anthems and vote. They had a one hour special tonight on CBC about the anthems and the composers, but if you missed it, you can still go to the CBC website to listen and vote.

Don’t forget to do this! This may be the theme that will affect our Saturday nights for the rest of time, so it better be something we can drunkenly sing and sway to for a long time.

2. The Federal Election

Without getting into the politics (I certainly know who I’m voting for), it’s also important that we remember to vote on the Federal Election date of October 14th, 2008. If you’re going to be out of town like me, make sure you register to vote by mail. It’s super easy. You can find out everything you need to know at Elections.ca. Make sure you’re educated before you vote. You can find out a lot online, but a good starting place is CBC. Here’s a rundown of the different parties and leaders, and Canada Votes is a good place for live election coverage. Don’t forget!

Tomorrow, I’ve been lucky enough to be invited to the last pre-season Canucks game against the Ducks by my friend Mr. Orlando. I’m super excited! I can’t believe a whole summer has passed and now I’m going to a a ‘Nucks game again. What a great start to the hockey season. My friend has awesome season tickets in the lower bowl — I can’t wait! And the last pre-season game means the first regular season game is just around the corner… I hope you’re all ready.

Sorry, no pictures tonight as I am writing remotely. :(
